Dutch Diamond Group develops and manufactures precision diamond ATR prisms for FTIR spectroscopy, analytical instruments and customer specific optical systems. ATR stands for Attenuated Total Reflectance, an infrared spectroscopy technique that allows solid, liquid, powder and paste samples to be analysed with little or no sample preparation.
Diamond is particularly suitable for ATR applications because it combines broad optical transmission with exceptional hardness, chemical resistance and a smooth, wear resistant sample surface. Our diamond ATR components are available in square, rectangular, round, conical, spherical and window like geometries. They can be supplied as free standing diamond components or mounted in customer specific holders for direct integration into analytical instruments.
Geometry, optical surfaces, angle of incidence, sample contact area, mounting method and material grade can be adapted to the requirements of the application.
What is a diamond ATR prism?
A diamond ATR prism is an optical component used in Attenuated Total Reflectance spectroscopy. Infrared light is directed through the diamond and internally reflected at the surface that is in contact with the sample. The resulting spectrum provides information about the chemical composition of the sample.
Why is diamond used for ATR spectroscopy?
Diamond combines broad optical transmission with exceptional hardness, chemical resistance and wear resistance. This makes it suitable for analysing hard, abrasive and chemically aggressive samples while providing a durable sample contact surface.
Which samples can be analysed with a diamond ATR prism?
Diamond ATR prisms can be used for the analysis of solids, liquids, powders, pastes, polymers, pharmaceutical materials, chemicals and many other sample types. The suitability depends on the optical configuration and the properties of the sample.
Does Dutch Diamond Group manufacture custom ATR prisms?
Yes. Dutch Diamond Group develops and manufactures diamond ATR prisms according to customer drawings, specifications and instrument requirements. Dimensions, geometry, optical surfaces, angle of incidence and sample contact area can be customised.
Which diamond ATR geometries are available?
Available geometries include square and rectangular prisms, round and conical prisms, spherical prisms and window like ATR elements. Other geometries can be developed for customer specific analytical systems.
Can diamond ATR prisms be supplied mounted?
Yes. Diamond ATR prisms can be supplied as free standing components or mounted in customer specific holders. Mounting methods and holder materials are selected according to the optical, mechanical and chemical requirements of the application.
What is the difference between an ATR prism and a window like ATR element?
An ATR prism generally uses angled optical surfaces to guide the infrared beam through the diamond. A window like ATR element may have a flatter and more compact geometry but still creates internal reflection at the sample contact surface. The correct design depends on the optical configuration of the instrument.
Can Dutch Diamond Group supply ATR components for OEM production?
Yes. Dutch Diamond Group supports equipment manufacturers from initial design and prototyping through final inspection and recurring production. Mounted components can be tested according to agreed optical and dimensional specifications.
What information is required for a quotation?
Please provide the required dimensions, diamond grade, wavelength range, angle of incidence, sample contact area, number of internal reflections, holder design, operating conditions and expected quantities. A drawing or existing component is helpful when available.
