The impossible has been done!

Monocrystalline Diamond Spheres, Precision in Every Direction

Dutch Diamond Group has developed a specialised process for manufacturing highly accurate spheres from monocrystalline diamond. Diamond combines exceptional hardness, wear resistance, chemical stability, thermal conductivity and optical properties. By processing this material into precision spheres, we create components for demanding mechanical, metrological, scientific and optical applications. In addition to free standing diamond spheres, we can mount spheres onto shafts, stems and customer specific holders made from various technical materials.

Diamond spheres can also be processed into hemispheres and spherical optical components

Key Properties

  • Exceptional wear-resistance
  • Very low coefficient of friction due to nanometer-scale roughness
  • Chemically inert
  • High load resistant
  • Non-magnetic
  • One of the best heat conductors available
  • Electrically insulating
  • Operating temperature up to 600 °C
  • No built-up of material due to scanning
  • G10 Roundness (max deviation from perfect roundness is 250 nm)

Typical Applications

  • Coordinate Measuring Machine Styli
  • Precision Measurement Systems
