Optical Performance in Demanding Environments
Dutch Diamond Group develops and manufactures precision diamond windows for analytical instruments, optical systems, sensors and other demanding technical applications.Diamond combines broad optical transmission with exceptional hardness, chemical resistance, mechanical strength and thermal conductivity. This makes it an excellent window material for applications in which conventional optical materials are affected by wear, heat, pressure, radiation or aggressive chemicals.
Our diamond windows can be produced in round, square and rectangular geometries. They are available as parallel or wedged windows and can be supplied as free standing components or as complete mounted assemblies.
Why Diamond?
Diamond offers a unique combination of optical, mechanical and thermal properties.
Our diamond windows are manufactured according to customer drawings and application requirements. Available options include:
The optical performance of a diamond window depends on surface roughness, flatness, parallelism, thickness and the quality of the selected diamond material. Dutch Diamond Group uses advanced white light interferometry to characterise polished diamond surfaces at micro and nanometre scale. This allows us to inspect surface roughness, flatness and other relevant characteristics according to the agreed specifications.
Measurement and inspection reports can be supplied upon request.
Parallel diamond windows are suitable for many transmission and protection applications.
A controlled wedge angle can be applied when internal reflections or interference effects must be reduced. The appropriate geometry depends on the wavelength range, optical configuration and intended use of the window.
Diamond windows can be supplied as free standing optical components or mounted in customer specific holders.
We select the mounting method and holder material according to the mechanical, thermal, optical and chemical requirements of the application. Our engineering team can support the development of the complete window assembly for integration into an OEM instrument or technical system.
The appropriate diamond grade, thickness, geometry and surface specification depend on the intended wavelength range and operating conditions. Dutch Diamond Group works closely with customers to determine the correct balance between optical performance, mechanical strength, manufacturability and cost.
What is a diamond optical window?
A diamond optical window is a transparent component that allows optical radiation to pass through while protecting an instrument, sensor or process from external conditions. Diamond provides optical transmission combined with exceptional hardness, chemical resistance and thermal conductivity.
Why is diamond used for optical windows?
Diamond is used when conventional optical materials cannot provide the required combination of transparency, wear resistance, mechanical strength, chemical stability and heat dissipation.
Which applications use diamond windows?
Diamond windows are used in spectroscopy, analytical instruments, optical sensors, laser systems, X ray equipment, semiconductor processing, high pressure research and other demanding scientific and industrial systems.
Which spectral ranges can diamond windows transmit?
Depending on the selected diamond material and grade, diamond windows can be used across UV, visible, infrared and other specialised spectral ranges. The exact transmission characteristics depend on material quality, thickness, surface finish and possible coatings.
Does Dutch Diamond Group manufacture custom diamond windows?
Yes. Dutch Diamond Group manufactures diamond windows according to customer drawings and technical requirements. Dimensions, thickness, geometry, surface quality, parallelism and wedge angle can be customised.
Which shapes are available?
Diamond windows can be produced in round, square and rectangular geometries. Other customer specific shapes can be evaluated by our engineering team.
What is a wedged diamond window?
A wedged window has two surfaces that are positioned at a small angle to each other. This geometry can help reduce unwanted interference effects and internal reflections within an optical system.
What is the maximum window size?
Dutch Diamond Group currently manufactures diamond windows with dimensions up to 30 mm. The achievable dimensions and tolerances depend on the required geometry, thickness, diamond grade and surface specifications.
Can diamond windows be supplied mounted?
Yes. Diamond windows can be supplied as free standing components or mounted in customer specific holders. The mounting method is selected according to the optical, mechanical, thermal and chemical requirements.
How is the surface quality inspected?
Dutch Diamond Group uses white light interferometry and other inspection methods to evaluate surface roughness, flatness and relevant dimensional characteristics. Measurement reports can be supplied when required.
What information is required for a quotation?
Please provide the dimensions, thickness, geometry, wavelength range, required surface quality, operating temperature, pressure, chemical environment, mounting requirements and expected quantities. A technical drawing is helpful when available.
